Valentine’s Day 2017: Streaming Video, Audio Content For Celebration Of Love

It may not be your anniversary, and it may be on a Tuesday, but that doesn’t stop you from going gaga on Valentine’s Day. Or maybe you are not really into it, but your significant other is, and so you go along anyway.

So while you have that romantic dinner planned (which you are cooking, not ordering), what music should you play in the background? Or if you are going to cuddle up on the couch to watch a film, which one should it be? Worry not, streaming services have got you covered.

Amazon Music, Spotify and Slacker Radio have curated playlists on the theme of love. Amazon has two new playlists this year, one called Love Me for those who embrace Valentine’s Day and the associated romance, and another called Love Me Not for those in the opposite camp. Spotify has a number of romance-themed playlists such as 90s Baby Makers, Valentine’s Day Love and Sexy as Folk. Similarly, Slacker also has a number of thematic playlists like Nothing But Love Songs, Country Love, Broken Heart, Punk Rock Love Songs and Vintage Love Songs.

If you want to listen to something a little more unconventional, Slacker offers a special radio show called “Slacker Radio Stories: True Love.” It features 10 unusual love stories from the past, such as the romance between the Roman general Mark Antony and Egyptian queen Cleopatra.

“Michael Bolton’s Big Sexy Valentine’s Day Special,” an all-star cast variety show (starring Bolton, of course, Andy Samberg, Brooke Shields, Maya Rudolph, Michael Sheen, Randall Park and Adam Scott, among others) released Tuesday on Netflix. This is how the video-streaming describes the show: “After Santa tells him [Bolton] he needs 75,000 new babies by Christmas to meet toy supply, Michael Bolton hosts a telethon to inspire the world to make love.”

Netflix also has a number of other mushy titles, such as “Corpse Bride,” “Finding Dory,” “High Strung,” “Magic Mike,” “The Five Heartbeats,” as well as documentaries like “From This Day Forward: A Trans Love Story” and “Paris Is Burning.” On Feb. 14, the company will also release “Girlfriend’s Day.”

Competitor Hulu is adding a number of appropriate movies to its catalog in February, including “City of Angels,” “Revolutionary Road,” “Shakespeare in Love” and “The Piano.” It has also obtained rights to stream the entire collection of 1980s’ sitcom “The Golden Girls” which will start airing Feb. 13.
