Valerie Bertinelli Talks About Her Weight: 'Being Judged On Your Size Is Never OK'
Valerie Bertinelli has once again opened up about her weight loss journey in an exclusive interview with ET. The actress says it is "never OK" to get judged based on your size.
"It's a very toxic relationship and I think that being judged on your size is never OK," she said. "But I learned at a very young age that I was unlovable if I gained weight -- and that's a lie."
The actress emphasizes that many people have now realized this perception is a lie and it needs to get out of us, adding, "We are all lovable in and of ourselves."
The 61-year-old actress also spoke about a video she posted on Instagram last month, in which she got emotional talking about her body image.
"I still have my weak moments," she told ET. "Just a couple of weeks ago I posted something on Instagram 'cause I was having one of those self-loathing moments. I felt myself spiraling and I think that’s when we stop ourselves and start to look at all the beautiful gifts we have in our life."
Bertinelli suggested one should "go outside in the rain, go take a walk with your dog or go pet your cat" to feel good. If someone doesn't have a pet, they should look at themselves in the mirror and say, "I love you just as you are," she said.
The actress was taught as a child that she should show love by making delicious food for others. But now, she is ready to take care of herself without worrying about the numbers on the scale.
"I like to share it with them, and I just don't wanna deny myself that any longer. I don't want to use food as a crutch," she added. "I still wanna eat healthy, I still wanna eat more vegetables and more fruits and not have as much alcohol and less sugar and still move my body."
Bertinelli released her new book, titled "Enough Already: Learning to Love the Way I Am Today," on Tuesday. She speaks about her second marriage to Tom Vitale in the book. The estranged couple got married in 2011 and filed for divorce last year.
Bertinelli spoke about the marriage in an interview with The View on Tuesday.
On the work front, the actress will be next seen in a TV series, "Hungry," which is currently under pre-production.
