‘Vampire Diaries’ Season 8 Spoilers: How Katherine Is Connected To The Final Season
“The Vampire Diaries” brought back Tyler and then Matt, but could Katherine be next? The CW drama’s latest storyline has a surprising connection to the dead vampire.
Season 8, episode 4 revealed that Sybil (Nathalie Kelley) isn’t the only siren. She and Seline (Kristen Gutoskie) are killing for a man called Arcadius (Wolé Parks), who Sybil believes is the Devil. Cade wants the souls of bad people in Hell, and it seems this isn’t like the Phoenix Stone. Georgie’s shocking death scene hints that this might be actual Hell.
Georgie’s (Allison Scagliotti) death itself wasn’t surprising. She had a crush on Alaric (Matt Davis), and that’s how this usually goes for his love interests. However, audiences were able to see her soul after dying. Georgie was dragged on the ground and eventually pulled up into the sky. It should look familiar to fans. It’s the same way that Katherine (Nina Dobrev) left in Season 5.
This is fairly important because it reveals that the Hell being discussed in “The Vampire Diaries” Season 8 is not populated by just the sirens’ victims. Katherine wasn’t killed by Celine, Sybil or Cade. Stefan (Paul Wesley) stabbed her with a traveler knife, and some unknown mystical power ripped her soul away after she tried to get to the Other Side. It seems Cade has many forces bringing him evil souls.
Executive producer Caroline Dries wouldn’t clarify exactly where Katherine went when she was taken. However, it’s clear that she isn’t in a good place. “We don't say anything religious like Heaven or Hell, but that’s the implication — she’s going to a dark world,” Dries told TV Guide in 2014.
So will we get to see Katherine in her dark world? The show hasn’t visited Hell yet, but it seems like it could happen. Sybil said that she gave Damon (Ian Somerhalder) a sneak peek of the Hell that awaited him, and he decided to work for Cade for eternity. It isn’t clear if “TVD” will let audiences see his glimpse into the underworld.
Of course, “The Vampire Diaries” will need Nina Dobrev to return if they want to show Katherine. The actress is rumored to be reprising her role as Elena in the final season. While The CW confirmed that Dobrev was in talks to return, they have not announced if a deal was actually made.
“The Vampire Diaries” Season 8 airs Fridays at 8 p.m. EST on The CW.
