?Vampire Diaries? Season Finale: Executive Produce Julie Plec Talks Vampire Elena And Season 4 Spoilers
Warning: Spoilers Ahead
The season three finale of the Vampire Diaries left viewers with tears in their eyes and their mouths hanging open. After such an unbelievably shocking episode it's hard to imagine waiting until the fall to find out what happens next, but luckily Executive Producer Julie Plec spilled some secrets to Entertainment Weekly.
While the episode was filled with surprising moments, like Klaus getting staked, Elena choosing Stefan, or finding out that Damon met Elena first, the real head spinner came in the last couple minutes when fans found out that Elena had been slipped vampire blood by Dr. Fell before she died.
The last couple seconds of the episode find Elena opening her eyes and gasping for breath (or lack of) after drowning when Matt swerves off Wickery bridge.
Luckily fans can get a little more information about vampire Elena from Plec's interview with Entertainment Weekly.
According to Plec, Elena's turn has been two years coming. For those unfamiliar with the books in which the show is based off of, Elena turns into a vampire by page 200 of the first book. That obviously felt too soon, and rushed, Plec told EW. We didn't want to make the show about a teenage girl who instantly becomes a vampire. But we always knew that her journey would take her there eventually, and we just kept riding the wave until it felt right.
Fans of the show should take into consideration all that Elena went through this season, as Plec says it will greatly affect what kind of vampire she will be. Her grief, love for her friends, and all the physical training she went through in season two will be carefully molded into her new life as a vampire.
When watching the season finale Thursday night, viewers were not expecting Elena to die, and certainly weren't expecting to learn that Dr. Fell had slipped Elena vampire blood. That is a question that we will ask and answer when we come back next season, Plec says of whether Elena knew she had taken vampire blood.
As for the Salvatore brother love triangle, Plec pretty much assures fans that Damon is still in the game even after Elena told him she picked Stefan. When Elena made her phone call to Damon to say goodbye, she told him that things might have been different if she had met him first.
In one of the many flashbacks from the season finale episode, we find out that Damon DID meet Elena first, but compelled her to forget because he didn't want anyone to know he was in town.
If there's one thing that everyone knows about our vampire rules it's that when you die and are in transition, your memories start to come back, Plec teases of this new revelation. I think it's just all part of the ongoing friendship and romantic entanglement that Elena has with Damon.
The only other information Julie Plec teased of season four of the Vampire Diaries is that fans can expect to see some intense Caroline and Tyler (being inhabited by Klaus) interactions, as well as some new players in town.
