‘Vampire Diaries’ Star Ian Somerhalder Almost In Deadly Plane Crash, Tweets About TWA Flight 800 [PHOTOS]
“Vampire Diaries” star Ian Somerhalder shared some frightening news on Wednesday. The 34-year-old actor revealed that he was almost in a deadly plane crash.
The event Somerhalder is referring to was the July 17, 1996, crash of JFK-to-Paris TWA Flight 800 off Long Island. The disaster claimed the lives of 230 passengers and crew.
According to the Associated Press, the National Transportation Safety Board initially concluded that Flight 800 was “destroyed by a center fuel tank explosion, probably caused by a spark from a short-circuit in the wiring.” However, many have speculated that it was something more … like a bomb, meteorite or rogue Navy missile.
Seventeen years later, the investigators from the first probe of TWA Flight 800 are asking for the evidence to be re-examined, believing that the missile theories might have something to them.
“We’re are not speculating in the least,” said Tom Stalcup, co-founder of Flight 800 Independent Researchers. “We are basing our conclusion on the facts. Based on the evidence, we can push [The NTSB’s] conclusions aside. I think the whole world should listen."
Stalcup’s statement was part of a conference call for the upcoming documentary, “Flight 800.” The documentary will dive into the claims of a CIA cover up and tampering of evidence.
The New York Daily News reports that the NTSB issued a statement on the request for a reinvestigation of Flight 800. The agency states that, “While the NTSB rarely re-investigates issues that have already been examined, our investigations are never closed and we can review any new information.”
