A van crashed into a clothing store in Burien, Washington, on Monday night, leaving 11 injured. Three of the injured are said to be in critical condition.

The incident occurred at approximately 9:15 p.m. at the Ross Dress for Less store.

Police say that the driver of the vehicle, a 51-year-old man, was waiting in a parking lot for a woman who was inside attempting to shoplift. Once the woman got back in the vehicle, the driving took off quickly and promptly crashed through the store’s front window. The van came to a stop after crashing through the front register area.

The driver of the van was suspected of being under the influence. He was arrested for that potential DUI and vehicular assault. The woman was arrested for shoplifting and an outstanding warrant unrelated to the crash.

“Fire and deputies got here really quickly on scene and were able to start treating victims right away, and that is most likely how we didn't lose anybody,” King County Sheriff’s Sergeant Ryan Abbott said. “Everybody is alive so far and everybody has been transported and being treated at the best hospitals that we have”

One of the individuals injured by the crash was a 2-year-old boy who was sitting a stroller. He was among those said to be in critical condition. The other two were a 41-year-old man and another person in their 30s.

Burien is located roughly 10 miles south of Seattle.
