Vancouver Riots: Steve Nash Appeals for Calm
After the devastating Game Seven loss to the Boston Bruins in the 2011 Stanley Cup, some Vancouver fans took to the streets to show their displeasure with losing the title.
NBA star Steve Nash, a native of British Columbia, appealed to fans to stop the violence and demonstrations via Twitter. We're a great city and have a lot of class. Our team is great and our championship will come. Soon.
He also tweeted: World: as you can imagine Vancouver is being embarrassed by a relative few.
There have been no reported deaths in the demonstrations, but there has been plenty of fights and vandalism. Cars have been overturned and set on fire, there has been looting, and beer bottles have been thrown at giant TV screens.
The Canucks lost to the Bruins 4-0 on their home ice on Wednesday night.
Vancouver has never won an NHL title and also failed to do so with their expansion NBA franchise, the Grizzlies.
