Vanessa Bryant Continuing with Divorce Despite Kissing Kobe on Valentine’s Day
Vanessa Bryant might be friendly towards ex Kobe Bryant, whom she was seen kissing on Valentine's Day; but that does not mean the divorce is off.
Vanessa Bryant will reportedly continue with the divorce proceedings from her Lakers-player husband of more than 10 years. According to The L.A. Times, there have been not changes made to the couple's divorce case at Orange County family court. The records show that the two are dividing their assets and Vanessa will receive an estimated $18.8 million in property from Kobe.
On Tuesday, TMZ reported that Vanessa was seen kissing Kobe at the Lakers' Valentine's Day game against the Atlanta Hawks. The two shared an intimate moment in the tunnel on the way to the locker room, which quick-handed paparazzi caught photos of. Vanessa was decked out in a red dress, red pumps and red lipstick for the occasion.
According to TMZ, sources said that it would not be a surprise if Vanessa gets back with Kobe. The two have submitted all the necessary documents for their divorce, although it does not become final until mid-June. There is apparently still time to withdraw.
However, based on no current changes, it seems as if the divorce will continue.
Vanessa Bryant filed for divorce on Dec. 16, 2011. She cited irreconcilable differences, although it was widely publicized that Kobe's cheating ways were at the root of their problems. Three Newport Coast properties have already been transferred to Vanessa's name - including an $11.2 million home, a $2.9 million home and a $4.7 million home.
Kobe met Vanessa, then Vanessa Laine, in November 1999 while on the set of his music video (which was never released). Vanessa was a back-up dancer for The Eastsidaz video for the song G'ed Up. The Laker began dating the young beauty and they got engaged in May 2000. Kobe was 21-years-old and Vanessa was just 17-years-old; she was still a senior in high school.
They married on April 18, 2001, despite the fact that Kobe's parents did not approve of the relationship. His parents believed they were too young to wed. No prenuptial agreement was signed.
Just two years after the union, in July of 2003, Kobe was accused of sexually abusing a 19-year-old Colorado woman at a hotel. Katelyn Faber accused Kobe of raping her in his hotel room at The Lodge and Spa at Cordillera in Eagle County. Kobe Bryant admitted to adultery but denied the accusation. A settlement was reached by the terms were undisclosed.
Vanessa stood by her man. The gorgeous brunette was later seen wearing a $4 million, eight-carat purple diamond ring after the extramarital affair scandal. This was a gift from Kobe for all of the troubles. In Oct. 2003, the Laker revealed a new tattoo bearing his wife's name.
The couple has two daughters together.
