Verizon Gaming To Port 'Red Dead Redemption 2,' 'God Of War' Outside Consoles?
Verizon is reportedly testing a cloud-based gaming platform that’ll be accessible on an Android device. However, the promotional images of its games features two console exclusives, namely "Red Dead Redemption 2" and "God of War 2018."
According to The Verge, Verizon Gaming is a cloud-sourced gaming platform that’s currently on an NVIDIA Shield tablet and uses an Xbox One controller at the moment. The testing is currently underway and is expected to be finished by the end of January. This is Verizon’s project to directly compete with known console brands Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo.
The Verge was also able to get some screenshots of the current library of Verizon Gaming. The cloud-based gaming platform seems strong as it contains some console exclusives and other games. Here are the games that were seen from the screenshots:
- "Overwatch"
- "Fortnite"
- "Battlefield V"
- "Detroit Become Human"
- "FIFA ‘18"
- "God of War 2018"
- "Destiny 2"
- "Grand Theft Auto V"
- "Anthem"
- "Far Cry 5"
- "Sudden Strike"
- "Red Dead Redemption 2"
- "Knack 2"
- "Metro Exodus"
- "Strange Brigade"
- "No Man’s Sky"
- "Monster Hunter World"
Since the whole program is still in alpha, everything is still subject to change, and these games could be placeholders for the storefront of the Verizon Gaming platform.
Currently, it’s been a long trend in the video gaming community for players to ask for exclusives to be released on specific platforms. Many players would want "Detroit Become Human," "Red Dead Redemption 2," and "God of War 2018" on PC as the success of these games are undeniable and are good games in their own right. We’ll have to wait for more announcements from Verizon to see if this project will really kick off.
Meanwhile, Verizon wasn’t the first to have the Android-based console idea. Previously, Ouya ventured into a similar business but inevitably failed and fell into obscurity fast. Let’s see if Verizon will be the first successful Android console or if it will meet the same fate as Ouya.
