Is it time for Nexus to Step Down and Give Way to Galaxy S3? Reuters

Yet another release date has hit the Verizon Samsung Nexus Galaxy rumor mill, this time shooting for Friday, Dec.9. Tthe source appears to be an authorized Verizon retailer.

An email obtained by RootzWiki, states that the phone will be shipped Dec.6 and enter Verizon stores across the U.S by Dec.9. RootzWiki reports it spoke to other independent sources who confirmed these dates.

This week, the stores that carry Verizon Phones will be receiving Samsung Nexus Phones via UPS, the email says. The product cannot be displayed or sold until Friday Dec.9.

There is no way of knowing if the email officially came from Verizon as the sender details have been censored on the e-mail, but there have been other signals over the past week that have pointed to the same release date.

A member on Android Central posted photos of Verizon exclusive Galaxy Nexus accessories he purchased in a Verizon store. The owner protection package and spare battery charging kit in the photo both had Verizon and Galaxy Nexus logos on them.

The phone has also debuted online through a YouTube user that shot a video testing the speed of the phone, also bearing the Verizon Galaxy Nexus logo. The video posted by, hksscom, demonstrates speeds peaking at 8Mbps indoors, with only two bars of coverage on Verizon's 4G network.

Another My Droid World user posted a screenshot of an apparent Verizon Galaxy Nexus heralding Android Version 4.1. The Nexus Prime is the first phone to support the new Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich platform, which was designed to bridge the gap between Android 2.x and the 3.0 honeycombs.

Meanwhile, The Wall Street Journal reported that the phone would be released this month priced at $299.99 with a two-year contract.

Galaxy Nexus fans in the U.S expected a Thanksgiving launch for the Verizon exclusive phone, after it debuted in Europe, but to much disappointment the phone never came. Just two days later the phone miraculously appeared in a Best Buy add with a Nov. 27 release, but that too was a no show.

The phone comes with AMOLED 4.65 inch screen with a 720p resolution. Its 8.94mm thinness gives the phone a sleek finish and weighs only 135g. Despite being so slender and light the phone comes with 16.30 GB or 32GB of storage and 1GB of RAM, giving it twice the memory of the iPhone 4S.
