'Vermintide 2': How To Get Red Veteran-Tier Weapons

Beneath "Vermintide 2's" rat-smashing, horde-slaying action is a loot system that entices players to charge back into the fray again.

Though it's not exactly a looter shooter like other games, "Vermintide 2" has a decent equipment progression system that features weapons of varying tiers. Red-colored items, otherwise known as Veteran gear, offer the highest stats in the game while also being the most flexible when it comes to builds.

Naturally, such power comes at a price, and that comes in the form of commitment.

How to Get Veteran Weapons

Finishing levels is the primary method of getting new items in "Vermintide 2." However, since the game uses a loot box mechanic that randomly gives players random pieces of gear, getting a Veteran weapon isn't always guaranteed.

Unfortunately, there's no real way to guarantee a Veteran weapon drop. Everyone is subject to the same luck-based mechanic. However, there is a way to increase the odds of getting one of these coveted items to drop.

How Does Loot Work in 'Vermintide 2'?

Loot boxes are separated into five different types: Strongbox, Coffer, Chest, Vault and Commendation. The reward type scales depending on the difficulty of the mission that players finish. Commendation boxes are excluded from this rule as they can only be earned by leveling up or by finishing challenges.

These are further divided into six different tiers; the higher the tier, the better the odds of getting rarer gear.

When farming for Veteran items, players should ideally aim for Emperor's Vaults from Legend/Cataclysm difficulty missions since they provide the highest chances of getting those red gear pieces to drop.

Note that Chaos Wastes runs will always reward Emperor-tier item boxes.

What Are Veteran Weapons in 'Vermintide 2'?

Red weapons are almost the same as the Exotic/orange-tier weapons. The only difference is that the stats they roll with are always maxed out. If a Veteran weapon comes with Crit Chance and Crit Power, for example, those stats will always be at their highest values.

This trait also applies to charms, trinkets and accessories, and it is especially useful when re-rolling for specific builds. However, doing so will require plenty of spare Veteran items since reforging them requires Bright Dust, which can only be obtained by dismantling other items of the same tier.
