It seems like “Veronica Mars” will be taking an indefinite hiatus for now.

Series Creator Rob Thomas told TVLine there are currently no plans to bring the show back, meaning that Kristen Bell’s titular sleuth won’t be returning for another season on Hulu. However, that doesn’t rule out having more “Veronica Mars” in the near future. Hulu hasn’t commented on the potential fifth season, but a source told the site that there aren’t any plans in place for another season.

The long-awaited fourth season of “Veronica Mars” was released this past July on Hulu to good reviews from critics. However, it did polarize fans who didn't agree with the way storylines played out.

In the season finale, it was revealed that Jason Dohring’s Logan gets killed by a car bomb, leaving Veronica a widow. It was a hard blow for fans after showing a beloved character meeting his demise. Thomas briefly addressed the issue saying that “nothing has happened that I didn’t imagine was going to happen.”

Series star Kristen Bell also defended the decision on the big death. Speaking with Collider, the actress said, "I would say that I hope people recognize without conflict, there is no show. They would be dissatisfied if we had a perfect show. It would be lame. It would not be a reinvention of anything. It would not make any progress in Veronica's life."

The show originally ran on UPN for two seasons back in 2004 before being moved to The CW in 2006. “Veronica Mars” was revived as a 2014 film through Kickstarter after massive support from fans helped fund the film. In 2018, Hulu announced that it was going to do an eight-episode revival of the show that would pick up 12 years after the series finale and five years after the film. The season felt lackluster for fans of the series who thought some of the characters didn’t get enough screen time, though the more adult themes did receive praise.
