Victor Oladipo Knee Injury: LeBron, Other NBA Players Pray For Pacers Star
Indiana Pacers shooting guard Victor Oladipo suffered a serious-looking knee injury in the second quarter of their game against the Toronto Raptors on Wednesday night at the Bankers Life Fieldhouse, which they went on to win 110-106.
The guard suffered the injury when he was running back to defend a fast break and as he approached Pascal Siakam, who was airborne near the rim, he went down and immediately signaled the bench – with his scream very audible.
The reaction from the player and the medical staff indicates it is a serious injury. After a lengthy process on the court with both sets of players and the home fans showing major concern on their faces, Oladipo left the arena on a stretcher with the crowd chanting his name.
The Pacers confirmed it was a serious knee injury and that the guard will undergo an MRI on Thursday to further assess the extent of the damage. However, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the franchise fear the injury could be season-ending which is likely to require surgery in the coming days.
“Preliminary exam has left Pacers with fear that Victor Oladipo has suffered a season-ending knee injury that will require surgery, league sources tell ESPN. He will undergo an MRI on Thursday,” Wojnarowski wrote.
The NBA All-Star has been a key player for the Pacers since he joined them in 2017 and this season he was averaging 19.2 points, 5.7 rebounds and 5.3 assists. The Indiana team are currently third in the Eastern Conference with a 31-15 record.
Oladipo received immediate support and messages of prayer from his NBA colleagues with former Pacer Paul George leading the way. LeBron James, who is also currently sidelined by an injury, was immediate in his message of support for the Pacers shooting guard.
“Prayers up VO,” George wrote, before adding: “Back to my positive vibes.. everybody pray for Victor Oladipo.”
