Victoria Siegel Drug Overdose: 'Queen Of Versailles' Star Was On Prescription Meds Weeks Before Her Death
“Queen of Versailles” star Victoria Siegel was battling a prescription medication addiction before her death on Saturday, though the substance wasn't specified in a recent statement from the family. The 18-year-old was found dead by her parents' housekeeper at their home in Windermere, Florida, from a drug overdose.
Victoria was the daughter of David and Jackie Siegel, owners of the timeshare company Westgate Resorts and subjects of the 2012 documentary “Queen of Versailles.” The film, made by Lauren Greenfield, documented the couple as they created Versailles, their lavish home in Florida and one of the largest single-family homes in the U.S.
“The Siegel family is devastated and heartbroken by the loss of their beloved Victoria, age 18. They are hurt, deeply wounded and they are grieving. Victoria was a beautiful spirit with a wonderful smile who was greatly loved, and will be deeply missed. Victoria had a history of seizures and was prescribed medication for this condition,” family spokesman Michael Marder said in a statement to Us Weekly on Monday. “Unfortunately she became dependent and struggled with this condition. She voluntarily underwent rehabilitation and was working hard to address this problem.” The statement added that Victoria’s parents were attending a wedding over the weekend when the tragedy occurred.
“While an autopsy has been performed, the cause of death has not been determined. It is likely that Victoria ingested one or more drugs prior to her death, however, we cannot determine at this time whether or not the drugs she took were in fact prescribed medication, something else, or where and how these drugs may have been obtained,” Marder added.
An investigation will examine what exactly killed the teen, who was found unresponsive at 2 Saturday afternoon, according to WKMG-TV. The Siegels are awaiting the test results. “The family is deeply appreciative of the outpouring of support that they have received and request that their privacy be respected while they mourn their loss,” the statement concluded.
The couple and their children -- Jonquil, 21, David, 16, Daniel, 14, Debbie, 13, Drew, 12, Jordan, 7, and Jacqueline, 7, recently appeared in an episode of "Celebrity Wife Swap" with actor Jeremy London on ABC. Victoria was also seen in the show.
