Victoria’s Secret’s fashion show is a big event that has aired for ages. Ever since one can remember, Victoria’s Secret’s annual fashion show has been one of the most awaited events in the world of fashion.
Over time, Victoria’s Secret’s fashion show is reportedly loosing viewers. Citing an article from The Hollywood Reporter, ABC News reported that the fashion show’s rating in 2018, broadcasted on ABC, was its lowest.
The news publication further reported that the confirmation of the fashion show’s cancellation happened in an earnings call on Thursday, wherein Stuart Burgdoerfer, Chief Financial Officer of L Brand, Victoria’s Secret’s parent company, confirmed that last year was the brand’s last fashion show and will no longer continue doing so.
The report further denoted Burgdoerfer's statement that the fashion show had no significant impact on the next day sales. L Brand’s CFO also mentioned how evolving the marketing of Victoria’s Secret is. Even so, Burgdoerfer made it clear that Victoria’s Secret’s fashion shows were important aspect of the brand and called it as “remarkable marketing achievement.” However, things have changed.
One of the identified reasons of Victoria’s Secret’s plummeting sales was a change in attitude. There are societal standards that empowered women is equivalent to being skinny, fair and tall. However, there is a different connotation of what women empowerment is, these days. Basically, it’s acceptance of who you are —your skin color, height, weight, curves— and being confident and comfortable in your skin.

Some of the Netizens replied to the said story, saying how “time’s changed and women nowadays no longer need sophisticated lingerie to empower themselves.”
Indeed, time and society’s changed.
One Netizen replied saying that there was not enough representation of body positivity in previous shows.
While there were some who posted comments such as “finally” and “it’s about time,” there were also some who simply wanted their angels back.
