A car accident in Arizona caught on camera saved a family attempting to cross a busy intersection.

The Oct. 14 accident in Phoenix involved a speeding Jeep that ran a red light and was hit on the driver's side by Chevrolet Cruze that had the green light. The impact pushed both cars to the right.

As the accident unfolded, a couple pushing a stroller in the crosswalk managed to run to the far curb.

The accident was caught on a traffic camera and posted online by the Phoenix Police Department on Wednesday.

Phoenix NBC-affiliate KPNX reported the driver of the Jeep was identified as Ernesto Otanez Oveso, 27. He was driving with a woman, whose name was not released. The duo reportedly fled to a parking lot near the intersection.

Oveso reportedly was followed by another man in a car. Oveso told the man to stop, then allegedly pulled out a pocket knife and tried to stab the man through the driver's window. Police responding to the scene approached Oveso in the lot a short time later. He reportedly was seen stuffing the knife back into his pocket.

Oveso is currently in custody facing DUI and aggravated assault charges, along with outstanding felony and misdemeanor warrants. Police said they found a gun hidden under his driver seat, which is illegal because of two previous felony convictions.
