A hat trick from forward Mateo Kovacic and a brace in the final 21 minutes for Mauro Icardi aided Inter Milan’s 6-0 demolition of Stjarnan during UEFA Europa League play on Thursday at San Siro.

After already claiming a 3-0 win in the first leg of the playoff, Milan moves on to the group stages with resounding 9-0 victory on aggregate over the Icelandic club.

Now in his second term with Inter, Kovacic began the onslaught by finishing off midfielder Danilo D’Ambrosio’s deep cross from the right side of the midfield with a flying rebound finish in the 28th minute, and five minutes later charged through Stjarnan’s shambolic defense for a chip shot over keeper Ingvar Jonsson.

Fellow forward Pablo Daniel Osvaldo put Milan up 3-0 in the 46th minute by heading home Yuto Nagatomo’s well-timed cross into the top right corner, and Kovacic cemented his hat trick in the 51st minute with a curving right-footed strike just near the top of the box.

Two minutes later Icardi came on for Kovacic and continued to punish the right side of Stjarnan’s net with another swooping right-footed goal in the 69th minute.
