Premier League leaders Manchester City remain unbeaten after a 1-1 draw with Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.
The visitors struck first in the 31st minute when David Silva delivered an excellent near-post corner kick that found Vincent Kompany, who headed the ball in.
The lead was short-lived. Liverpool even the match two minutes later when Charlie Adam's shot from distance was deflected into the goal by Joleon Lescott. The former Everton star seemed to swing his leg out for no reason.
Kenny Dalglish's side failed to capitalize on Mario Balottelli's red card inside the final 10 minutes of the match. The hot-headed forward came on a substitute in the 65th minute for Samir Nasri, and his second yellow card was the result of clumsy foul on Martin Skrtel .
Liverpool were far more active in their attack. The Reds took 17 shots, with six on goal, while Manchester City took seven shots, with only three on goal. Ball possession was almost split evenly.
City are now five points ahead of second-place Manchester United. The draw puts Liverpool in sixth place.
Before the start of the game, there was a moment of silence to honor the death of Welsh great Gary Speed.
