  • Police are now seeking assistance from the public in identifying the shooter

Police in Washington, D.C., are on the lookout for a Maserati driver who opened fire on two adjacent vehicles last Wednesday, injuring one person in the process.

The shooting occurred at approximately 5 p.m. on the 1600 block of Eastern Avenue, the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) said in a statement released on the same day as the incident.

Surveillance footage of the incident released by authorities Saturday showed the gunman exiting what was described as a gray two-door Maserati and then discharging his pistol at the sedan in front of him.

The driver, an adult woman, pulled over on Eastern Avenue and called 911, WJLA reported.

The shooter then pointed the gun to the rear of his luxury car before returning to his vehicle and fleeing. His second apparent target could not be identified as they were out of frame, but the police report said that driver backed up as the suspect fired into the car.

According to the police statement, officers from the department's Sixth District arrived a few minutes later and discovered a woman suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services were called to the scene and transported the victim to a hospital, where she was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

It was unclear if the driver of the sedan and the treated victim were the same person. Authorities said a child in one of the involved vehicles also suffered from "minor cuts," as per WJLA.

MPD did not release a possible motive for the shooting, but the sedan shot appeared to have overtaken the gunman's car in the video.

Police are urging people with information that can help in identifying the gunman to contact authorities. The man is facing an assault with a dangerous weapon offense.

Anyone who can identify this suspect or vehicle or has knowledge of this incident should take no action but call police at (202) 727-9099 or text your tip to the Department's TEXT TIP LINE at 50411. The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $10,000 to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for a violent crime committed in the District of Columbia.

A similar incident happened Saturday in Craven County, North Carolina, when a man was arrested for firing several times at an occupied vehicle in what police described as a road rage incident.

Police arrested 20-year-old Rasheed Cox and charged him with attempted assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, discharging a firearm into occupied property and discharging a weapon in the city limits, the New Bern Police Department said in a statement released Saturday. He was placed in Craven County Jail with a $30,000 secured bond.

Officers were responding to reports of a vehicle being shot shortly before 2 p.m. in the area of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and River Road when they located Cox's vehicle and prevented him from fleeing the area.

The victim's vehicle was struck multiple times, but police said he was uninjured.
