VIDEO: Plane Makes Emergency Landing On Busy Street In Washington State
Footage has emerged of a propeller plane that made an emergency landing on a Washington state highway.
The original incident occurred on Thursday while David Acklam was out for a morning flight in his personal plane. While airborne, his plane suffered a fuel malfunction that resulted in it stalling above a commuter area of Parkland, Washington. Acklam had no choice but to make an emergency landing, which saw him land on a busy commuter street.
“I was flying to work and my engine quit and made a forced landing on Pac. Ave.,” Acklam told KOMO News.
State Trooper Clint Thompson was patrolling in the area when the emergency landing happened, and the dash cam footage has emerged online.
Thompson was patrolling on State Route 7 when he noticed Acklam’s plane, though he initially thought it was a remote control plane. However, as the plane got closer, he realized it was a prop plane and quickly turned around in response to ensure everyone was safe.
“I decided to make a U-turn, turn on my emergency lights, and try to slow traffic down to give him a place to land,” Thompson told KOMO. “In my 21 years, this is a first.”
Ultimately, the plane landed safely and no one was hurt in the emergency landing.
