VIDEO Ricky Schroder Confronts Costco Worker Over Wearing A Mask, Twitter Reacts
Actor Ricky Schroder came under fire Sunday after a video circulated of the former child star arguing with a Costco employee in Southern California because the store wouldn’t allow him to enter without a face mask.
In the video, Schroder, 51, is heard asking the Costco supervisor why he wasn’t allowed to enter the store.
“Because in the state of California, and the county of Los Angeles, and Costco, there has been no change to our mask policy,” the employee calmly told Schroder, who was not wearing a mask.
The actor fired back, “Yes there has been. You didn’t see the news? Nationwide Costco has said you don’t need to wear masks.”
The employee then pointed out that the store was required to follow state and county mandates that were still in effect, which required masks to be worn inside of businesses.
However, his explanation failed to satisfy Schroder, who demanded a refund and encouraged others to end their Costco memberships until people are allowed to enter the store without masks.
On Sunday, Schroder’s name became a trending topic on Twitter, with critics slamming the actor for harassing the Costco employee who was simply enforcing store guidelines. The video also prompted Twitter users to note recent controversies involving Schroder, who starred on the sitcom "Silver Spoons" from 1982 to 1986.
One Twitter user applauded the employee’s poise throughout his encounter with Schroder.
“Most of us know - deep down - that we would never have the patience, composure, and professionalism of #CostcoJason. I wouldn’t have lasted 10 seconds with whomever Ricky Schroder is..... I probably would have laughed at him and gotten a friendly Costco Bouncer to toss him,” the post read.
Schroder, who saw a comeback in the late 1990s when he appeared on "NYPD Blue," has had his share of legal problems. He was arrested twice in 2019 for domestic violence with the same woman.
Following Schroder’s Costco scandal, Kyle Rittenhouse’s name also trended on Twitter, as users recalled how the actor donated to help the teen post a $2 million bond. Rittenhouse is accused of killing two people, and wounding a third person with an AR-15 rifle during a protest in Wisconsin.
After his release, Rittenhouse appeared in photos with Schroder.
“Aside from a deranged failed child actors like Ricky Schroder who was twice arrested for domestic abuse harassing Costco employees, your reminder that the red hat reject also helped to post bail for terrorist Kyle Rittenhouse. A menace to society to be sure,” one post read.
