Many years ago, the Williams sisters had a pretty good rivalry going. In the third round of the U.S. Open, Serena not only came out on top over her big sister Venus but did so in extremely convincing fashion.

The 17th-seeded Serena on Friday dismantled the 16th-seeded Venus, 6-1 6-2, equaling the most lopsided win over her sister in their 30th overall meeting.

The single-day record crowd of 70,162 at Arthur Ashe Stadium at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center attempted to will Venus on in the second set but there was little she could do against the 23-time Grand Slam champion.

Despite suffering an ankle injury in the early going, Serena battled back to win seven straight games and eventually closed out Venus in 72 minutes.

To end the first set, Serena delivered an ace that Venus looked helpless to contest. Serena had a noticeable limp in the second set but still made quick work of Venus, a seven-time Grand Slam winner.

The victory could serve as a momentum builder for Serena, who has suffered some defeats in her comeback following the birth of her first child in 2017.

"I think it's by far the best match I ever played against her in forever," Serena said after the match. "But I don't know about ever, ever. It probably was. I played much better tonight than I have since I started this journey on my way back."

Serena leads the head-to-head matchup with Venus, 18-12, and leads 11-5 in Grand Slam matches.
