Adele got emotional during her Las Vegas residency show Friday due to an unexpected fan interaction.
In a clip posted by TikTok fan page @adeleaccess, the singer was walking through the audience at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace while singing her hit song, "When We Were Young," when one man appeared to show her a photo of his wife, which he had up on his phone.
The Grammy winner did not react at the time, but when she returned to the stage to perform "Someone Like You," she dedicated the song to the unidentified man.
"This is for you, sir, who's showing me his wife on the phone," she said mid-performance.
After singing the ballad, Adele broke down in tears and later explained to the audience why she got emotional.
"When I walk through the crowd, I wish you could see what I can see," the singer said. "Because I know I talk to a few people every night, but then I just see little stories of people happening, and there was a man—he's just there, can you see him holding his phone up?"
"I think that's his wife on his phone, and I don't think she's here, and it just really moved me," Adele continued, suggesting that the man's wife had passed away as she added, "I'm so sorry for your loss, and I didn't realize what you were showing me until I was over here."
"I see these little pockets of people's lives as I walk through and it's so beautiful," she added while still shedding tears.
Fans flocked to the comments section of the now-viral video, which has garnered 1.8 million likes and 13 million views as of this writing, to praise the singer for being a "genuine" and "amazing" person.
"[Adele's] soul is just so pure. What an amazing human she is!" one fan wrote.
Another commented, "I can't explain all the emotions Friday's concert took me through, but this very moment was probably the most beautiful and special of it all."
"The most down to earth [and] purest soul," a third user wrote, while another said, "Adele has always shown this human side of hers... That's why she is so real. I [love] her so much."
Adele kicked off her long-awaited Las Vegas residency, called "Weekends with Adele," in November last year, months after it was pushed back because the singer felt that there "was just no soul" in her show and that it "lacked intimacy." It was initially scheduled to start in January 2022 and run until April 2022.
Adele's five-month series of Friday and Saturday night shows is expected to end on March 25.
