Things got batty on a Spirit Airlines flight when a bat flew through the plane’s cabin during a recent flight.

The bat managed to work its way onto a flight the budget airline had scheduled for 6 a.m. on Wednesday to depart from Charlotte, North Carolina. While on its way to Newark, New Jersey, the bat emerged and started flying around the cabin, much to the shock of the passengers on board.

Several passengers managed to capture video of the bat flying around the cabin, which quickly appeared online. In the video, some passengers can be heard screaming in shock and yelling “it’s not a bat, is it?”

Peter Scattini, one of the passengers on the flight, told CNN that no noticed the bat in the cabin until 30 minutes into the flight. He also said the bat kept flying around the cabin until someone was able to trap it with “a book and a cup.”

The bat was then brought to one of the bathrooms and kept there until the plane arrived at Newark.

Once the flight landed, animal control was brought onboard to remove the bat safely. The plane was then searched and disinfected thoroughly to ensure there were no more bats hidden onboard.

“It is believed the bat started its journey in Charlotte, flying into an overhead bin while our crews were doing overnight maintenance,” Spirit Airlines said in a statement to press. “No one was hurt in this incident, including the bat.”
