VIDEO Tottenham 4-0 QPR Highlights, Goals: Chadli, Dier Lead Spurs Victory
After barely escaping West Ham in their Premier League opener, Tottenham overpowered Queens Park Rangers 4-0 Sunday at White Hart Lane. Spurs needed some late heroics from defender Eric Dier to put West Ham down last week, but made quick work of QPR within the first 37 minutes of play.
Midfielder Nacer Chadli provided the opening goal in the 12th minute, and completed his brace in the 37th. Seven minutes prior it was Dier coming up with his second goal in as many games, and veteran forward Emmanuel Adebayor dropped in his goal in the 65th.
Spurs backline forced QPR into several mistakes, including four offsides, and used their resounding 66-34 possession advantage to force 18 total shots compared to nine for QPR.
Adebayor also came up with an assist, with Chadli finishing off a fastbreak by accepting the Togo native’s cross with one touch and a strike for the early 1-0 lead.
Dier deflected his header into the top right corner of the net off a tight corner kick from Erick Lamela , leaving QPR keeper Robert Green helpless. Lamela’s cross proved deadly again, finding Chadli lurking near the net for the header and the 3-0 lead.
Following Danny Rose’s deft through ball, Adebayor streaked past a broken QPR line and finished off the rout with breakaway run with a right-footed strike to the bottom corner.
