VIDEO Trump Gave The Middle Finger? Watch As President May Have Flipped Women Astronauts The Bird
President Trump was accused Friday of flipping the middle finger to an astronaut that corrected him during a video call.
In a video call to the International Space Station with astronauts Jessica Meir and Christina Koch, Trump, who was joined by first daughter Ivanka Trump and Vice-President Mike Pence, congratulated the two women for being the first female astronauts to walk in space.
“We are thrilled to be speaking live with two brave American astronauts who are making history joining us during their spacewalk...And this is the first time for a woman outside of the space station,” Trump said.
Meir quickly corrected Trump and pointed they weren't the first women to conduct a spacewalk, but it was instead the first all-women spacewalk in history.
After being corrected, Trump is seen scratching his forehead with his middle finger. Social media quickly jumped on the President, accusing him of trying to casually flip off Meir and Koch.
The first female spacewalk was in 1984 by Russian cosmonaut Svetlana Savitskaya as part of the Soyuz T-12 mission. Since then, 15 women have conducted 43 spacewalks. The most recent marked the fourth spacewalk for Koch while it was the first for Meir.
Friday’s spacewalk by Koch and Meir was done to fix an exterior battery charger that had been malfunctioning. The repairs took eight hours to complete before power was restored for operations and research stations affected by the malfunction.
