Video Of US Soldiers Asking Syrians About Ex-Porn Star Mia Khalifa Sparks Twitter Debate
KEY POINTS
- U.S. soldiers tried to connect to local Syrians by asking them if they watch Mia Khalifa
- Twitter users have mixed reactions to the U.S. soldiers asking the local Syrians about Khalifa
- Khalifa is Lebanese and she was banned from her home country for doing porn
A new video on TikTok showing U.S. soldiers asking local Syrians about ex-porn star Mia Khalifa has gone viral and it sparked a debate on Twitter.
Richard Wolfgang shared a video of U.S. soldiers talking to locals in Syria about Khalifa on TikTok. The soldiers asked the men if they watch Khalifa, referring to her pornographic videos on tube sites. The men, who don't speak English, did not understand the men in uniform.
"She's a girl," another soldier said.
But the locals were still confused. One man even tried to do some hand gestures to communicate with the soldiers.
"Should've studied more arabic," the caption for the video read.
The video was shared on Twitter and the online users have mixed opinions about it. Some slammed the soldiers because for them, the men in uniform were making fun or harassing the locals. Others felt that they were wasting the budget for doing something else other than their jobs.
"Defund the military. Paying these soldiers to sweep the streets or to do anything else would be better than harassing these people," one wrote.
"Oh my god the horror. The lack of professionalism. The tax dollars. The defense budget. Oh- wait. This is just a few enlisted soldiers? We're not talking about the entire Navy brass? Or the Pentagon audits where billions go to hide? What do people honestly think enlisted do?" another added.
Meanwhile, Ward Carroll mocked the soldiers for treating the locals like idiots because "they're not porn-literate." "Good job, Army," he sarcastically wrote.
However, several also defended the soldiers because for them, the video was just for fun and they didn't mean to mock or harm anyone. The soldiers are exposed to stressful situations and their conversations with the locals are just their ways of finding a common ground with them.
"So, as a soldier myself, this is clearly just a bunch of guys trying to make the best of a sh-- situation and have a few laughs. It's clearly just how our guys are trying to relate to the locals, it's all a joke. This outrage culture sh-- has gone too far," one commented.
"Disgusting that the liberal media would try to twist this into anything other than what it is: young men trying to find common ground between themselves and the native inhabitants," another user wrote.
Many also pointed out that the soldiers were wrong to ask the locals in the first place because Khalifa is not Syrian but Lebanese. Also, porn is against their religion and culture. Another user said the joke was fine but sharing it on TikTok is stupid.
Khalifa was born in Beirut, Lebanon. However, her home country banned her from entering its premises for doing porn. The former adult entertainer said she only did porn for three months and only made $12,000 from it.
