“Vikings” Season 6 will begin with Bjorn (Alexander Ludwig) as the new king of Kattegat. TV series creator Michael Hirst said in a recent interview that the character will think he can be a better king than his father Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel).

In an interview with TV Guide, Hirst said that Bjorn wants to fill his father’s shoes, but he also believes that he can be a better king. The show creator pointed out that Ragnar was not interested in ruling. Ragnar became a king reluctantly and he never enjoyed the job. His son, however, has been thinking about ruling all his life, and he feels that he can be good at it because he can be “far more liberal and tolerant and empathetic than Ragnar was.”

Bjorn’s belief will be tested as soon as he becomes king. The first few decisions after becoming the king are crucial, and according to Hirst, the new king will have to deal with the political realities quickly instead of dwelling in ideals.

One or two major decisions that Bjorn has to make in “Vikings” Season 6 have been described as lose-lose decisions. If he doesn’t manage to deal with the political realities soon, it will mean his eventual downfall.

One character who could have helped Bjorn rule is Rollo (Clive Standen). However, the character has not been a part of the main story for a while. Hirst has teased that the fans may get a chance to see the character again, which suggests that he may be back in a flashback sequence or in a vision, Screen Rant reported.

The main threat on the show continues to be Ivar (Alex Høgh Andersen), who has decided to take revenge on his brothers by joining forces with King Oleg (Danila Kozlovsky). The opening scene of Season 6 posted on the Twitter page of Rotten Tomatoes shows Ivar taking the Silk Road to meet his new ally.

“Vikings” Season 6 is set to air on Dec. 4 at 9 p.m. EST on History.
