Viktoria Chapman: The Ex-Wife Who Gets $300K from Don Cornelius' Death
Viktoria Chapman, the ex-wife of Soul Train creator Don Cornelius, will reportedly collecting $300,000 in benefits now that her ex-husband is dead.
Cornelius, 75, was found with single gunshot wound to the head on Wednesday morning, at his Sherman Oaks, Calif., home. He was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. Officials believe that Cornelius committed suicide.
According to TMZ, Cornelius died with two life insurance policies that total $300,000 and the money will reportedly go to Chapman, the woman with whom Cornelius had a rocky breakup.
Cornelius was convicted of domestic abuse and reportedly said that Chapman pepper sprayed him multiple times, TMZ reported. The two divorced in 2009. Legal documents obtained by the celebrity Web site noted that that Cornelius stated that, I am 72 years old. I have significant health issues. I want to finalize this divorce before I die.
The divorce finalized later that year with a provision in the settlement agreement stating that the Soul Train creator must make Chapman the beneficiary of both of his life insurance policies.
Born Donald Cortez Cornelius on Sept. 27, 1936, in Chicago, he had two sons with his first wife Delores. It was reported that in recent years, Cornelius suffered a stroke and had brain surgery, which left him in much pain.
