Vin Diesel Introduces Rita Moreno As His Grandma In 'Fast X' [Watch]
Vin Diesel has revealed that 90-year-old actress Rita Moreno will be portraying his grandmother in the highly anticipated movie "Fast X," which will mark the final installment of the popular franchise.
"It's been my dream forever to work with Rita Moreno, and the fact that she's here playing my grandmother makes my soul smile," the 54-year-old actor said in the video he shared on Instagram on Tuesday. "I'm so blessed."
Moreno, who was also in the actor's video alongside actress Michelle Rodriguez, then remarked, "You know what? I think I was getting … I think my old age was waiting for you to invite me. Isn't that nice? And I'm here. And the answer is yes, I'll do it."
Fans took to the comments section to share their reactions to the clip.
"Amazing!! You are awesome! Gracias for bringing in such a great group of diversity to FF along the years! Absolutely AWESOME! Paul Walker is smiling!" one of them wrote, while another said, "WOW that's awesome NEWS!"
The news came almost a month after director Justin Lin announced that he wouldn't helm the project anymore but would still serve as its producer.
"With the support of Universal, I have made the difficult decision to step back as director of FAST X, while remaining with the project as a producer," Lin said at the time.
"Over 10 years and five films, we have been able to shoot the best actors, the best stunts, and the best damn car chases," he added. "On a personal note, as the child of Asian immigrants, I am proud of helping to build the most diverse franchise in movie history."
"I will forever be grateful to the amazing cast, crew and studio for their support, and for welcoming me into the FAST family," he concluded.
Lin is not the first person who left the franchise. Dwayne Johnson, who played Luke Hobbs in its sixth installment, confirmed his departure from "Fast and Furious" in July 2021. He then revealed in December of the same year that he privately turned down Diesel's invitation to rejoin the franchise.
"This past June, when Vin and I actually connected not over social media, I told him directly — and privately — that I would not be returning to the franchise," he said at the time.
"Fast X" is scheduled to have its theatrical release on May 19, 2023.
