  • Fast & Furious' latest installment hits theaters on June 25

Vin Diesel is open to doing a “Fast & Furious” musical. In a recent interview with Kelly Clarkson, the “Fast & Furious” star revealed that he has a past with musical theater as a child and said he would be down to do a musical version of the widely popular film series.

While reflecting on his past as a dancer, Diesel told Clarkson on Wednesday that he still yearns to become a part of a huge musical in the future.

The actor also revealed that his love and appreciation for the theater were largely influenced by his family, especially his thespian father and grandmother. He said between his grandmother’s passion for theater and his dad’s work as a stage actor, he received a lot of support for his career as a Hollywood actor.

“My family is artistic, and I’m blessed to have that and I’m blessed to be in a family that’s supportive of these crazy dreams,” he said, adding: “I would encourage everyone to support the people who want to think outside the box and dream something impossible, because there’s great beauty in that.”

Diesel’s reflections prompted Clarkson to ask him a question fans likely had not thought about: “What about doing a full-on ‘Fast and Furious’ musical? Would you be down?,” to which Diesel answered, “I’m dying to do a musical, so yes I would!”

“I’ve been dying to do a musical my whole life!” the actor said. He then revealed that he was supposed to do a “Guys and Dolls” musical with Steven Spielberg, but the project did not see the light of the day. The director, however, went on to make an adaptation of “West Side Story,” which is opening in theaters in December 2021.

Diesel shared that his dream role in a musical is of Nathan Detroit, which would have been his role in “Guys and Dolls” had the project pushed through.

“For the longest time, I thought the Nathan Detroit role in ‘Guys and Dolls’ would be a very interesting one to revamp, the one that Frank Sinatra played in ‘Guys and Dolls,’” he said.

“F9,” the latest installment in the “Fast & Furious” series, hits theaters on June 25.
