Virginia Tech Shooting: School Postpones Final Exams
Virginia Tech has postponed Friday's exams after an unnamed shooter killed two people on the school's campus on Thursday.
Friday would mark the first day of exams for the school's students, but Virginia Tech has decided to indefinitely postpone the exams in lieu of a campus-wide lockdown following the shootings.
The shooting occurred after a routine traffic stop occurred in the Coliseum parking lot, according to the school, and resulted in the death of a Virginia Tech police officer and another unknown victim.
Police have identified the suspect as a white male wearing gray sweat pants, gray hat w/neon green brim, maroon hoodie and backpack. As of 3:30 p.m., the primary suspect had still not been caught.
Mark Owczarski, director of news and information for the university, said that the university is looking absolutely everywhere, but that the status of the shooter is unknown.
Dec. 8th was meant to be a study day for students ahead of the beginning of finals on Friday and thus no classes were in session. The entire school has been put on lockdown and potential visitors have been told to stay away from the Blacksburg campus.
The school has planned a 4:30 p.m. news conference to further discuss the shooting.
