‘The Voice’ Judge Kelly Clarkson Has Been ‘Dreading’ Divorce With Husband Brandon Blackstock

Before Kelly Clarkson and Brandon Blackstock announced their divorce earlier this week, the former couple tried to save their marriage. However, their attempt to rebuild their bond reportedly made matters worse.

Clarkson and Blackstock, who married in 2013, share two children together, 5-year-old daughter River, and 4-year-old son Remington.

A source told Entertainment Tonight that Clarkson and Blackstock thought spending time together with their kids amid the coronavirus pandemic would help their marriage.

“Kelly and Brandon had been having problems for several months and were making a conscious effort to work things out. They both hoped quarantining away from L.A. in Montana would help them work things out in their marriage, but instead, the change in environment was actually detrimental,” the insider explained.

“The constant time together seemed to make an already challenging situation worse,” the insider added.

The source claimed Clarkson, 38, initiated the divorce process “they’d both been dreading” a few weeks before news of the split surfaced. “Kelly knew she just needed to follow her heart and finally realized divorce was her only option,” the insider said,

Although Clarkson and Blackstock have broken up, they are in contact with one another to help their children adjust to the change. “Kelly and Brandon haven’t cut each other off; they are still talking to one another. They are both heartbroken, but their plan is to put the kids first,” the source revealed.

“Their focus is on co-parenting and moving forward, as this is the last place they ever thought they would be. They both understand divorce is never easy for children, but Kelly and Brandon are great parents. It’ll just take time.”

As of Friday, Clarkson is no longer following Blackstock on Instagram. However, the 43-year-old is still following “The Voice” judge and the IG account of her talk show.
