'The Voice' Season 22: This Is Why Camila Cabello Replaced Kelly Clarkson On Show
Monday's premiere of "The Voice" Season 22 saw some familiar faces plus a new one – Camila Cabello.
The 25-year-old "Havana" singer made her debut as a coach after Clarkson opted not to join the show this season due to some family time.
"It's maybe common for a lot of working people. You don't get summers off, generally, unless you're in high school. But I hadn't had a minute, and it's obviously been a rough couple of years," Clarkson told hosts Hoda Koth and Carson Daly on the "Today Show" in August. "So, it was really important to me to shut down for a minute."
This will be the first time Clarkson was not part of the show since she first joined "The Voice" in 2014 for Season 14. The "Behind These Hazel Eyes" singer has achieved four wins in the show.
Earlier this month, Clarkson revealed she informed fellow coaches Blake Shelton, Gwen Stefani and John Legend about her decision to skip Season 22 to make time for her family.
"I had this conversation with a friend-- I don't know if balance is the word we should be using because it's never gonna be perfectly balanced, right? 'Cause everything ebbs and flows," she said in an interview with ET. "I texted the other coaches and the executive producer and everyone and I was like, 'I'm really sorry, you know, I gotta take a minute.' And everybody understood it. They've been on this ride with me behind the scenes and they get it. Some have gone through similar situations."
On Monday, Cabello joined Shelton, Stefani and Legend as they unanimously approved 35-year-old Nashville singer Morgan Myles, who delivered a soulful rendition of "Hallelujah."
Cabello and Stefani were the first to turn their chairs in approval. Legend and Shelton followed suit. When Myles ended her song, Stefani realized that Cabello had blocked her.
"Do you see this?" Stefani asked. "I turned around, she (Myles) looked straight into my soul. She was like, 'There's Gwen Stefani, I want to be on her team.'"
Cabello retorted, "She didn't say that."
"In her heart she did. I felt it. I looked and then I was blocked. It was you," Stefani said before pointing to Cabello, who responded by blowing kisses to the longtime "The Voice" coach.
