‘Voyage’: ABBA’s First Album In 39 Years Soars High On Billboard 200

Swedish pop group ABBA returns to the music scene with “Voyage,” their highest charting album ever on Billboard 200.
“Voyage” debuted at No. 2 on Billboard 200 on the chart dated Nov. 20 following its release on Nov. 5. This is the group’s first album released in nearly four decades following “The Visitors” in 1982.
Previously, the quartet’s highest-charting album on the Billboard 200 was “The Album” released in 1978. “The Album” peaked at No. 14 on the chart dated July 22, 1978. It contains the hit single “Take a Chance on Me,” which reached No. 3 of Billboard Hot 100 songs chart which tallies the hottest singles based on sales, radio play, and lately, on streaming data.
“The Album” was a follow up to the successful “Arrival” album which peaked at No. 20 on Billboard 200. It includes “Dancing Queen,” the only track in the album that peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1976.
Billboard 200 ranks the most popular albums of a given week in the U.S. The entries are tallied following album sales and streaming data.
“Voyage” is ABBA’s 14th charting album on the Billboard 200 and is also the seventh to reach top 40, Billboard highlighted. The album is also on top of Billboard’s Top Album Sales and Vinyl Albums charts.
The new album reunited Agnetha Fältskog, Benny Andersson, Björn Kristian Ulvaeus and Anni-Frid Lyngstad in the studio after more than three decades.
Similar to their previous album releases, the songs from “Voyage” were written and produced by Benny Andersson, and Björn Kristian Ulvaeus. It was completed in Andersson’s studio in Stockholm in a span of over four years.
The “Mamma Mia” singers will also gather for a show titled “ABBA Voyage” on May 27, 2022 in a new location built specifically for the show – ABBA Arena at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London.
What makes it special is the concert will see the group’s digital avatars perform their hits amid a live 10-piece band.
“We’re going to be able to sit back in an audience and watch our digital selves perform our songs on a stage in a custom-built arena in London next spring. Weird and wonderful!,” ABBA told Billboard in a statement.
