VP Debate: Harris Scores Points With Women; Fly Lands On Pence's Head

Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., hit back at Vice President Mike Pence after he interrupted her as she criticized the Trump administration's handling of the coronavirus pandemic during Wednesday night’s vice presidential debate.

Harris said President Donald Trump attempted to downplay the threat of COVID-19 despite being aware of the severity of it just because he "wanted people to remain calm." She then criticized the vice president for defending Trump even after knowing "how serious this was."

When Pence attempted to interrupt Harris, she cut him off saying, "Mr. Vice President, I’m speaking." She then looked into the camera and delivered a line that resonated with female viewers:

"I want to ask the American people: how calm were you when you were panicked about where you were going to get your next roll of toilet paper?" she asked. "How calm were you when your kids were sent home from school and you didn’t know when they would go back? How calm were you when your children couldn’t see your parents because you were afraid they could kill them?"

After the video of the exchange went viral on social media, women cheered on the senator and lauded her.

“When Kamala Harris said, 'I'm Speaking,' I felt it. You felt it. Your mom felt it Your grandma felt it. Every woman on this earth alive or dead felt it. Because we know what it means to be talked over, interrupted, disbelieved. Do not be afraid to say, 'IM SPEAKING,'" a Twitter user said.

"Joe Biden can we please get merch with I'm speaking now! So many women felt this tonight. Kamala Harris thank you for showing up tonight. You showed up for all Americans," another woman tweeted.

Another incident from the debate that created quite a buzz on social media was a fly landing on Pence’s head and settling there for more than two minutes. Though Pence seemed unaware, viewers were quick to notice the fly, which turned out to be an unexpected star of the debate. Social media was swarming with memes and jokes about the fly.

Wednesday’s event came after last week's presidential debate during which Biden slammed Trump for constantly interrupting him. The presidential election is scheduled for Nov. 3.
