Vice President Kamala Harris on Tuesday became the subject of criticism after she appeared on a radio program where she attempted to explain Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in layman’s terms.

During an appearance on “The Morning Hustle,” co-host Headkrack, at one point, asked Harris to explain the Russia-Ukraine conflict and how it can affect people in the United States in simpler terms.

“So, Ukraine is a country in Europe. It exists next to another country called Russia,” she said, speaking slowly. “Russia is a bigger country. Russia is a powerful country. Russia decided to invade a smaller country called Ukraine. So, basically, that’s wrong, and it goes against everything that we stand for.”

Critics later pounced on Harris for her over-simplistic explanation of the war. Some questioned her understanding of the Russian invasion and others mocked her choice of words, with one commenter comparing her to a children’s TV program character, “Peppa Pig.”

“Apparently Vice President Kamala Harris believes the average American layperson is aged 4. You will hear higher levels of explanation of international affairs in Peppa Pig,” Ben Domenech, a publisher of The Federalist, wrote in a tweet.

Nathan Wurtzel, a GOP campaign consultant, also mocked Harris’ explanation and compared her to South Park character Mr. Mackey.

“Ukraine is a country in Europe, m'kay? It exists next to another country called Russia, m'kay? Russia is a bigger country, m'kay? Russia decided to invade a smaller country called Ukraine, so basically that's wrong, m'kay? It's wrong to invade smaller countries, m',” Wurtzel wrote.

Former Trump White House counselor Kellyanne Conway also took to Twitter to call Harris’ explanation “embarrassing,” adding that she now understands why the vice president’s staffers have resigned.

At the beginning of 2022, Harris’s office saw an exodus of staff members, including her chief speechwriter Kate Childs Graham. Her former staffers said workplace morale was their reason for leaving the office.

Harris has also been plagued by low job performance ratings, with the Real Clear Politics average of all recent surveys putting her approval rating at 37.5%. She had a disapproval rating of 51% as of Feb. 24.
