Embattled Jamaican dancehall star Vybz Kartel didn't escape prison on Wednesday, a law enforcement official told the local media.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Les Green told the Jamaica Observer on Wednesday that he had no knowledge of a reported jail break.
I know nothing about that, Green said. If that had taken place I would certainly have known.
There were reports that Katel was involved in a prison break early Wednesday morning at the New Horizon Adult Remand Centre, which involved several other inmates after holding officers at gunpoint. Those reports claimed that Kartel and others stole uniforms and vehicle that belong to the Correctional Services Department around 1 a.m. before escaping.
Kartel, whose real name is Adidja Palmer, has been in police custody since Oct. 1 and is currently awaiting trial regarding two murder cases.
The 35-year-old performer is being held as a suspect in the July 12 death of Barrington Bossie Burton, a promoter. Kartel is also held in connection with the Aug. 16 death of Clive Lizard Williams.
The Jamaica Observer has reported that Kartel has been repeatedly denied bail.
