Wachowskis of Matrix fame to direct Robin Hood movie
The Wachowskis Brothers aka the Wachowskis of the Matrix Trilogy fame are coming up with a movie based on an urban version of Robin Hood with Warner Brothers.
The Hollywood Reporter said that the script for the movie titled Hood is ready and the brothers will be directing the movie.
There are indication that Will Smith is being contacted for the eponymous role. Will Smith was touted to play the part of Neo in The Matrix but he passed the opportunity to do Wild Wild West.
Wachowskis are known to give a certain edge to story telling. The siblings admit to a love for telling multipart stories.
Because we grew up on comic books and theTolkien triology one of the things we're interested in is bringing serial fiction to cinema, Larry explained in an initial interview.
Andy puts his desire to shake up viewers a bit more bluntly, We think movies are fairly boring and predictable. We want to screw with audiences' expectations.
The duo have been a little quiet after their Speed Racer failed to do well at the box office. The Hood will be their second project dealing with a convential commercial topic.
Known for keeping to themselves and not giving interviews, the brothers have many tabloids gossiping about their lives and loves. They have not given an interview for the past four years and reportedly have a deal with Warner Brothers which excludes them from giving any.
They are also looking to produce an adaptation of the David Mitchell novel Cloud Atlas, and Natalie Portman recently confirmed her commitment to it. Production is expected to commence in spring 2011. Since the brothers is only producing the movie they will have ample time to devote to directing the Hood.
