The recently aired episode of “The Walking Dead” Season 10 featured a shocking death, and it also revealed an exciting new twist in the story. Showrunner Angela Kang spoke about the recent events on the show in a recent interview.

The following article contains spoilers from “The Walking Dead” Season 10, episode 7.

The episode “Open Your Eyes” was mainly about Siddiq (Avi Nash). The character was having violent flashbacks about the Whisperers, and it later dawned on him that Dante (Juan Javier Cardenas) was a spy who was sent into their community to sabotage them. The discovery also led to Siddiq’s death.

Talking about the events in the episode and the overall arc of the new season, Kang told Entertainment Weekly that the whole idea of a spy was centered around the cold war between the two factions. The producer pointed out that the comic books have dealt with issues like paranoia and propaganda, but during their discussions they realized that they can only make “The Walking Dead” Season 10 about cold war if they introduce spies.

They decided to introduce Dante as a spy because people, even the ones as smart as the heroes in the show, generally trust doctors. The character’s introduction also had an impact on Siddiq, and the producers liked the idea about how they could build on that relationship to tell the story.

Nash learnt that his character was going to die in the pre-season phone call with Kang. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, he said that he was “ thrilled and excited to be tasked with such a powerful arc.” With his exit from the show, he said that he will miss the cast and crew, who he said have become his family.

What will happen now on the show? According to the comics, the war between the heroes and the Whisperers is imminent, The Wrap reported.

The next episode of “The Walking Dead” Season 10 will air on Nov. 24 at 9 p.m. EST on AMC.
