There is still a long way before “The Walking Dead” Season 10 finale airs, but fans are already eager to find out how the return of a popular character will alter the storyline in Season 11.
As teased in the trailer of Season 10, episode 16, Lauren Cohan’s Maggie will return in the finale. The character, who was last seen in Season 9, left after Rick Grimes failed to kill Negan and Michonne did not let Maggie to finish the task herself.
Maggie had wanted to take revenge after Negan killed her husband Glenn with a barbed wire-covered baseball bat that he affectionately calls Lucille.
But in the six years Maggie had left to live with another group of survivors, Negan underwent a tremendous transformation. He has willingly become part of a civilized society.
While the Season 10 finale might not feature a Maggie-Negan encounter, their strained relationship could be a part of the upcoming season.
In an earlier interview with AMC, Cohan revealed that her character has undergone a tremendous transformation, and viewers will be greeted to a new version of Maggie.
She said: “There are definitely things she will have picked up on the road and there’s also the relationship with her son and how growing with him has affected her.
“It’s a nice surprise to come back to these changes, understand what motivates her return, what happened while she was out there and who’s still going to be here when she returns. We have a lot to unpack.”
On Maggie’s relationship with Negan, Cohan said, “ Just like in life, it might be one of those things she doesn’t know until she faces it. She definitely decided not to kill him on that day when Michonne discouraged her. She did go that way. Forgiveness is liberating. I suppose we’ll get to see to what degree she has decided to liberate herself. ”
As “The Walking Dead” comic book fans already know, Maggie does not kill Negan. She gives up on the plan once she sees how willing he was to end his life. Negan’s arc in the book ends with him living alone in an abandoned town, and Carl is often seen bringing him supplies.
