'Walking Dead' Season 6 Spoilers: Who Will Negan Kill? Theories For Finale [POLL]
With just three episodes left before “The Walking Dead” Season 6 introduces its most ominous villain yet, many fans are already bracing themselves for a major loss when the big moment comes. With the comic book character Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) on the way, fans are wondering if he’ll live up to the horror of his comic book introduction.
It was previously revealed that Negan, the infamous villain to Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and his group of Alexandria survivors, would be introduced on screen for the first time in the Season 6 finale, currently scheduled for an April 3 premiere. Despite not appearing on the hit AMC drama yet, the character’s presence looms large over the show, culminating in last week, and the previous week’s episode in which Rick’s group went head-to-head with some of Negan’s Saviors. Although the show and Season 6 have been no strangers to violence, the villain’s arrival in the comic books takes things to a grisly place, and fans are now wondering if the same will happen on the show.
[SPOILER ALERT: The remainder of this article will discuss Negan’s arrival in the comics as well as Season 6 of “The Walking Dead” so far.]
The first time the group encounters the foul-mouthed villain in the comics, he stops them on the road between Alexandria and Hilltop. After a sinister selection process, he randomly chooses Glenn, played in the show by Steven Yeun, to kill. He executes the fan-favorite character with a baseball bat wrapped in barbed wire, which he calls Lucille. Sadly, it takes more than one swing to kill him.
As Yeun recently told Entertainment Weekly, the show tends to stick to the general plot of the comic books, but minor details such as character introductions and departures have been drastically different. The comic books don’t even have a Daryl (Norman Reedus). As a result, many believe that the introduction of Negan in the Season 6 finale will still mean the death of a major character, but not necessarily Glenn.
After all, the audience already felt that particular blow earlier this year when the infamous fake-out occurred on the show. For those who don’t remember, Glenn was made to look like he’d been killed, but it turned out that he narrowly escaped the herd of walkers that was surrounding him thanks to the use of his friend as a human shield. In addition, there’s still a lot of characters on the show that have already met their end in the comics by the time Negan arrives, making them essentially expendable. A case has been made in the past for characters like Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Abraham (Michael Cudlitz), but it’s really anyone’s guess at this point.
