Wall Street ends up slightly; jobs data hurts
U.S. stocks ended slightly higher on Friday, shrugging off government data showing the unemployment rate rose to more than 10 percent.
Based on the latest available data, the Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> gained 17.46 points, or 0.17 percent, to end unofficially at 10,023.42. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> was up 2.67 points, or 0.25 percent, to finish unofficially at 1,069.30. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> was up 7.12 points, or 0.34 percent, to close unofficially at 2,112.44.
For the week, the Dow and the S&P 500 each ended up 3.2 percent, while the Nasdaq ended up 3.1 percent.
