Stocks extended gains on Wednesday after positive broker comments buoyed the industrial sector, while the falling dollar pushed up oil prices and shares of energy producers.

The Nasdaq outperformed the other indexes as eBay rose after Bernstein raised its rating to outperform from market perform and raised its price target to $28 from $24.

The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> rose 58.72 points, or 0.62 percent, to 9,556.06. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> gained 7.61 points, or 0.74 percent, to 1,033.00. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> jumped 21.33 points, or 1.05 percent, to 2,059.10.
