Wall Street rose at the open on Thursday after first-time jobless claims fell more than forecast, and solid results from Best Buy and an improved outlook from Qualcomm Inc energized investors.

The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> added 68.85 points, or 0.64 percent, to 10,905.00. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> rose 8.15 points, or 0.70 percent, to 1,175.87. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> gained 18.72 points, or 0.78 percent, to 2,417.48.
