- Curry says he would not look at Wiggins differently if he did not get the jab
Andrew Wiggins of the Golden State Warriors ended up getting vaccinated, something that he was initially against.
Reports surfaced that he requested for exemption due to religious matters.
"The NBA has reviewed and denied Andrew Wiggins' request for a religious exemption from the San Francisco Department of Public Health's order requiring COVID-19 vaccination for all participants age 12 and older at large indoor events," the NBA said in an official statement following Wiggins’ request for exemption.
This came months after Wiggins himself expressed his true feelings about getting vaccinated.
“Right now, I’m not getting it, but it’s no knock on anyone else that’s getting it. I make my own decisions. But right now, I decided not to get it,” Wiggins said back in March.
But probably aware that he stands to lose big, Wiggins reportedly already got the vaccine. This was relayed no less by Warriors head coach Steve Kerr.
However, the former top pick admitted it was something he hoped he won’t live to regret, aware that the only options were to either get the jab or not to play, the Mercury News reported.
“It was a tough decision. Hopefully, it works in the long run and, in 10 years, I’m still healthy… Time was not on my side. The season was starting soon. I didn’t want to miss basketball. I didn’t want to get the vaccination. But it was something I had to do… That’s not something I wanted to do, but I was kind of forced,” Wiggins stated.
With Wiggins getting the jab, the NBA has one less player to worry about. Among the big names who have yet to get the jab is Kyrie Irving.
For Wiggins, it is a sigh of relief as it saves him from losing big money. Regardless of what other people say, he has Stephen Curry to back him up no matter what.
“It’s a good sign he’s handling his responsibilities as a part of the team… (But) I wouldn’t think badly of him had it not turned out that way,” the three-time NBA MVP stated.
