Was LeAnn Rimes Drunk During 'X Factor' Duet With Carly Rose Sonenclar? Singer Denies Being Intoxicated [VIODEO]
LeAnn Rimes keeps making headlines, and this time not for a good reason either.
During her duet with Carly Rose Sonenclar on Fox’s “X Factor” Wednesday night, the singer had some people wondering whether she was drunk or just struggling to sing.
Rimes took the stage with Sonenclar, one of the show’s finalists who is being mentored by Britney Spears, to sing her hit song “How Do I Live.”
But it appeared the country crooner was intoxicated as she attempted to belt out her famous ballad.
“Was LeAnn Rimes drunk on last night's ‘X Factor’ performance?” one fan tweeted. “I heard she's been sick. Hope that's all.”
“It's been 12 hours and I'm still laughing and crying at the hot mess that was Leann Rimes on the #xfactor last night,” another wrote.
Other users noted that Rimes appeared “unstable” and “tried to outsing” the 13-year-old Carly Rose.
Rimes did seem as if she were trying to outsing the girl contestant as she hit the notes louder than she and even overlapped some of her lyrics.
At one point she even grabbed onto Sonenclar’s arm, and it looked like it was for support.
Rimes seemed to be annoyed by the speculation about her performance and took to Twitter to set the record straight.
"In my 18 years of performing, I have never been anything but professional onstage. It is a shame that gossip and lies are overshadowing the performance of Carly, a very talented young girl," she wrote. "And while I have not given any media outlet a quote, if you want one, here it is: 'It was an amazing opportunity to share this experience with Carly and I know I’ll be watching for her to win tonight.'"
Her lawyer Larry Stein told TMZ Rimes was trying to help a “nervous” Sonenclar.
"LeAnn was not performing the way she would normally perform, because she was on stage with a young girl," Stein told the website.
The singer recently went to rehab around her 30th birthday for stress and anxiety so she could make changes in her life. As she told Jay Leno on Tuesday during “The Tonight Show”: “God, the last four years have been super compressed with anxiety. I didn’t know how to deal with it all.”
