Was Miley Cyrus’ Joint At The MTV European Music Awards Legal? [VIDEO]
Miley Cyrus can’t stop and won’t stop. Fresh off her tour of making American television viewers cringe, the twerk queen brought her antics to the MTV European Music Awards in Amsterdam on Sunday night, when she lit what appeared to be a joint on stage.

The 20-year-old singer, who it should be noted, caught instant flack for the stunt, was on stage accepting an award for Best Video for “Wrecking Ball,” when she removed what looked like a joint from her purse and lit it. Cyrus thanked her fans and Terry Richardson, who directed the video, when she began fishing around in her bag.
“You know, I couldn’t fit this award in my bag, but I did find this,” she said, retrieving the hand-rolled cigarette. She then lit it to applause from the audience.
Cyrus has made no secret of her love for marijuana in the past, and sings about it, among other things, on her recent album “Bangerz.” On Friday, she also reportedly took model pal, Cara Delevingne, to a coffee shop in Amsterdam, where patrons can legally purchase up to 5 grams of marijuana from a menu.
But while possession of up to 30 grams of the drug is decriminalized in the Netherlands, that doesn’t mean that Cyrus’ toke was necessarily by the books.
In 2008, the country imposed a ban on smoking weed in public places. Coffee shops were excluded after owners complained but unless Cyrus can make a compelling case that the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam, where the ceremony was held, constitutes a designated coffee shop, smoking a joint there would not fall under the purview of the law.
But then again, maybe it was just tobacco…
