Watch: Cristiano Ronaldo’s Special Record That Is Near-Impossible For Lionel Messi To Break
KEY POINTS
- Ronaldo now has 50+ goals in three of Europe's top five leagues
- His latest brace against Lazio took his Serie A tally to 51
- Ronaldo has scored 34 goals in the 2019-20 season
Cristiano Ronaldo is the first-ever player in the history of soccer to have scored 50 or more goals in three of Europe's top five leagues.
Ronaldo recently scored a brace in Juventus' 2-0 win over Lazio and with that, he took his tally of Serie A goals to 51. Ronaldo, who moved to Italy from Real Madrid in the summer of 2018, scored 311 goals in La Liga during his nine-year stint with the Santiago Bernabeu side.
The Portuguese player kickstarted his professional soccer career at Sporting Lisbon in 2002 before he moved to the "Theatre of Dreams" the following year and the rest is history. He went on to score 84 goals in the Premier League, having played 196 league matches for Manchester United.
Messi, who has entered twilight years of his career that came into existence in 2004, has represented only FC Barcelona all throughout his run as a professional soccer player so far. He has jolted 444 goals in the La Liga from just 485 appearances and that speaks volumes about his immense dominance in the league over the years. Even though Messi has a terrific record in Spain, it is near-impossible for him to emulate Ronaldo’s special feat that the player has clinched across three top-flight leagues.
After Ronaldo scored a total of 28 goals in his maiden season with Juventus, he has bettered that in the ongoing 2019-20 campaign having netted 34 goals so far including 30 in Serie A, where Juventus are four points away from sealing their third consecutive league title. Ronaldo and Co. are also alive in the UEFA Champions League. They lost to Lyon 1-0 in their Round of 16 first leg.
Whichever side that progresses further from this tie will face off against the winner of Manchester City vs Real Madrid. There is a chance Ronaldo could take on his former club Real Madrid.
The 13-time champions, Real Madrid, will have to bring out their best game next month considering they are 1-2 down after losing to Pep Guardiola’s Man City at home in the first leg.
