Out of nowhere, Ubisoft has announced that its open-world action-stealth game “Watch Dogs Legion” will be getting an expansive new piece of DLC that will feature roguelite mechanics and a ravenous horde of the undead.
The “Watch Dogs: Legion Of The Dead” DLC will add a new co-op roguelite experience to the base game. Players will have to escape the game’s version of London while fending off hordes of zombies using the typical array of weapons, as well as the unique character skills and abilities featured in “Legion.”
Footage of the new game mode’s Alpha test was recently shared by IGN, giving players a glimpse of what to expect with the new DLC.
The DLC premise is simple: get out of the city alive while collecting a certain amount of Supply Packages along the way before time runs out. The city is filled with zombies and points of interest that are often populated by armed humans that will attack players on sight.
At the beginning of each match, players will get to pick between three different power-ups that will provide either abilities or weapons. Objectives are scattered in relatively close proximity with each other, and players are free to approach them however they’d like.
The usual arsenal of firearms and tech abilities will be available to use in the game mode, but the randomization element means every run will have players use different combinations of equipment every time.
The zombies in “Legion Of The Dead” are the typical slow-walking “Resident Evil” style of undead that also seem to run at players at random.
This decision to make the zombies slower was deliberately made with the intent to make them easy to avoid but highly lethal when they get too close, “Watch Dogs Legion” online director Jean-Pascal Cambiotti told IGN.
Despite being in an Alpha state, “Legion Of The Dead” is scheduled to be released alongside “Watch Dogs Legion’s” next big update Tuesday. It’s unclear whether or not the DLC will be paid or free, but considering that it’s being released without even having reached the Beta phase implies that all players will be able to get the new content without paying.
Ubisoft said that the game mode will continue to receive improvements over time based on player feedback.
